Eugenio Palumbo represents the prototype of the new mandolin generation. Promoter of the original repertoire he is convinced that the production of new works is fundamental to the rediscovery of the mandolin. Every year Eugenio collaborates with several composers to create solo and chamber works resulting in publications and premieres.
Highlights of the 2024/2025 season see the historic premiere performance of the two Romantic mandolin concertos by Ranieri and Calace in a single concert. With several orchestras he continues to showcase Bach and Vivaldi’s concertos with the mandolin. Eugenio takes part in various chamber music projects. Together with guitarist Roberto Guarnieri, he alternates between historical and contemporary original repertoire, and with harpist Anna Pilleroni he forms an unique duo in the international concert scene.
He has an intense concert activity that has taken him to perform all over the world, including at venues such as Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Muziekgebouw in Eindhoven, Teatro Regio in Parma, Abu Bakr Salem Theater in Saudi Arabia, Romolo Valli Theatre in Reggio Emilia, Teatro Comunale in Ferrara, Théâtre du Vrijthof in Maastricht, Teatro Pavarotti in Modena, etc. and he has performed under the baton of numerous renowned conductors, including Riccardo Muti.
Born in Carpi in 2001, Eugenio began studying the mandolin at an early age under the guidance of his father Roberto Palumbo, who passed onto him the love for this instrument. After classical studies, he entered the class of the mandolinist Dorina Frati at the Conservatorio “Luca Marenzio” in Brescia, where he graduated with honours and a special mention. At the same institution he also graduated in Chamber Music. He deepened his musical studies at the Conservatoire Royal de Liège with Vincent Beer-Demander and took part in numerous masterclasses, including those in early music with Mauro Squillante, as well as with famous mandolinist Avi Avital at the Stauffer Academy in Cremona.
